Grand Cayman Island is a warm and lovely place to escape the cold! My husband and I have friends that live there (“friends in all the right places”) and are visiting them for the week. They took us for a tour of the island on Monday. Although it’s quite small, 20 miles long x 4 miles wide, it takes a while to travel from spot to spot. My husband was a bit unnerved with driving on the “wrong” side of the road. Our friends both work, so we’ve spent time at the dazzling blue beach in front of their condo and the sparkling clear pool during their absence.
We took a six-mile hike along seven mile beach and saw a variety of birds…
The resident rooster at their condo…
The beach seems to stretch forever…
The path from the condo to the beach is inviting…
Our first sunset was special…
Driving to a secluded area on the Northwest corner of the island, the colorful kite-boarders were fun to watch!
The Jolly Roger ship is Cayman’s cartoon like version of a pirate ship!
Straight lines of piers are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, especially with a happy family swinging their child while walking its length.
During our tour of the island, we made a stop at Rum Point.
A storm had blown in the night before our long hike and a ton of seaweed and plastic was washed ashore. I read recently that by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. 😦
There weren’t many people out when we began our hike…
We went snorkeling a bit this afternoon and I’m excited to go to Stingray City tomorrow!
Grand Cayman is beautiful!
3 thoughts: 1,) Great pictures as usual. 2.) The worldwide plastics diaster is graphicall depicted in your picture, and covered well in Alan Weisman’s book “The World Without Us”- 3.) The last image somehow reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in “The Graduate!” 🙂 M

Those pictures really warmed me up. The plastic really is a shame. Do they have some kind of action/program for collecting it when it washes up like that? I’m thinking someone got a little too much sun in that last shot. Hubby looks pink. 😉

Actually, they had large plastic bags and were shoveling it. Yes…hubby’s back now matches the front! 🙂

The plastic on the beach is a tragedy.

It looked like a little piece of heaven until I saw the plastic on the beach.

Actually, there was quite a bit of seaweed right when we got in. We hadn’t been snorkeling in 13 years, so I was a little nervous. Tomorrow should be excellent since we’re going on a tour to Stingray City and then snorkeling.
