Edinburgh Castle is Scotland‘s most visited paid tourist attraction and sits upon an extinct volcano. The castle has undergone so many attacks during it’s 1100 years of history, it is the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world!
I captured these photos after touring the Castle and walking down toward Princes Street Gardens.
As you approach the castle to enter, this is your view…
Once inside, if you turn around this is your view…
Love these big cannons!
During the 1700’s and early 1800’s, the castle vaults were used to house prisoners of war.
This is the pet cemetery where the soldiers buried their dogs…
A seating area inside the castle…
When I’m exploring somewhere that is seeped in so much history, I feel invigorated and energized!
Great to see your photos of Edinburgh Castle again. Edinburgh was where I grew to love the bagpipes…during Lothian Heritage week, I believe.

Isn’t it amazing how many rocks had to be moved to build these castles?! Nice pictures. You must have had a great trip, seeing all these sights.

How long were you there? I just heard a radio show about Scotland and I thought to myself that it may be the very first country I want to visit if I ever get a chance to go overseas.

We were there 4 nights. There are so many wonderful places to explore in Europe…it’s difficult to pick just one!

This is so incredibly fascinating to me! The mysterious history… The last photo seems to have heating radiators below the seating.

So much of the history was surrounding poverty and suffering though. I didn’t notice the radiators at first. 🙂
