A few days ago my girlfriend Gina took me out in the Country to “Johns Flowers” to shop for flowers for our decks. It’s located in Fayetteville. I was hesitant at first to drive that far out for flowers when I could go to a Lowe’s or Home Depot 10 minutes away, but I’m so happy I did! He has a huge selection and the quality is outstanding! John is so friendly and helpful and it’s nice to support local businesses!
Looking around, I noticed some things that interested me…other than flowers. This pink dented wheel barrow against the rusted container…
The grown up yard next door with wild flowers and some of John’s bulk stone…
I took some of the color out of these Marigolds and liked the effect…
I’ve read recently that there’s a bee shortage and people should be planting flowers that produce pollen and nectar to help increase their population. I just finished the book “The Secret Life of Bees” and have another bee book on my list to read…”The Death of Bees“. Bees are quite fascinating!
John told us the story about how he found this boat. I don’t remember the entire story…something about half of it being submerged in a creek so he was surprised to find an entire boat. He wants to plant flowers in it.
That’s John answering a phone call. We were there for a good hour and he was constantly busy with customers!
My friend Gina recently moved out of a house she lived in for 20 years into an apartment temporarily until she found a house she wanted to buy, which didn’t take long….about three months, and I helped her during each move. She bought me a hanging basket for the front of my house and helped plant flowers in seven pots when we returned.
Here’s the before shot…
And the after! I think I got a great deal too…all of the flowers were only $44! There’s one large pot behind me. I still have more work to do…power wash and stain the deck (except for the spindles) and spray paint the outdoor furniture (it’s getting a little rusty).
Last night my son (he’s my only child) took me out for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Over-the-Rhine called A Tavola. He’s never eaten there and loved it! Then we walked a couple of blocks to a bar I’ve mentioned in the past called Japps for a drink before heading home. It was fun! He’s finally at that age where he recognizes and appreciates the things I’ve done for him.
Today we’re going to my cousin’s baby shower that’s being held at a local lake house and the guys get to fish! My husband paid for the flowers and bought me a pair of jeans. I’m a lucky girl!
Finally, here’s a photo of my mother who passed away almost two years ago. I miss her! I know many of you know the feeling.
I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day! I have to applaud your visit to the local greenhouse rather than to the big box stores. John’s looks beautiful, and so does your decorated deck (even without the extra to-do’s you mention). You have a great view!
