My three-day exploration of New York City ended with a trip to the “Top of the Rock” aka 30 Rockefeller Plaza. If you remember Molly, she accompanied me and we waited in line to buy our $27 ticket to the top. I wanted to see the views before dusk and at sunset, so we timed it just right and were at the top for about 30 minutes.
This is my final shot before taking the elevator down 70 floors to the bottom. You can see the Empire State Building…
I didn’t have a tripod with me, so they’re not as crisp as they could be.
Thirty minutes earlier this was the view…
There are three levels to observe from. We were on the top-level (which was very crowded…but there aren’t any plexiglass windows obstructing the view for photographs).
Here’s Central Park…
The view on the other side…
The sun was rapidly setting…
Twilight and twinkling lights…
Passing a tourist on the way out…
I hope you enjoyed your tour of New York City! I had a great time!

breathtaking photographs! My fav are of “blue hour” – twilight .. it is the best time for photography.. although tripod is indeed needed. You did great without it! Gorilla pod is the way to go when on the road, small and gives you the ability to shoot those crisp “blue hour” shots.

Thanks Elena. I had a Gorilla pod in my backpack in Brooklyn. It was still rather cumbersome for walking around all day. You’re right though…they’re great for many situations!

Beautiful photos! I went there two years ago and was lucky to have a clear windy day. We did a morning trip though so I am sorry I didn’t see the sun set.

Amazing…! That’s reminded me… I was on top of the WTC just a few weeks before the awful thing happened. I so wish I’d taken photos. It was a beautifully sunny, clear day.

That must have been even worse for you…having visited it so close to the tragedy!

It was an inconvenience for me, as I was stuck in the US for days on end until the airports opened again… but nothing compared to the pain and suffering of thousands of families who lost their loved ones 😦
