This is a “Hickory Horned Devil” that eventually morphs into a “Royal Walnut Moth” or “Regal Moth”. It looks like it has sunglasses on! It was about 4 inches long by 1 inch wide. It was laying on a hiking trail at Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio.

Thanks for the mention! That caterpillar sure does look like it has glasses on – very cute! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that a nice grove of bamboo is now growing in a place like Cincinnati.
