Children of Africa

The children of Africa are so spirited and expressive!  During my six weeks touring through six countries in Africa in May/June, I was fortunate to briefly interact with some of them.  These little girls from Solitaire, Namibia have so much attitude…they make me smile!

Usually, I get a feeling from people as to their personality and perhaps character, after first meeting them and often just from seeing them.  This young man seems to have a lot of common sense and insight.

I love the expression of the little boy on the left.  So open!

Some of the people wanted money in exchange for my taking a photo (which is common in many developing countries), but this young man at a market in Malawi, Africa readily agreed to be my subject.

Don’t you love the middle boy’s smile!

These school children mobbed me while we were touring a school in Malawi!

I don’t remember what I said to make this young girl smile.

These children were in a small home/hut where I visited a “Witch Doctor”.

While on a Spice Plantation tour near Stone Town, Zanzibar, these little girls were off in the distance.  Zanzibar has a large percentage of Muslim.

We need to cherish our children!

  4. Lovely photos depicting the kids of our continent… they are such a happy bunch… whilst in the Kalahari I got to meet some of the Bushmen descendants… those kids are probably the happiest I have seen yet live the most basic life style… just shows how those that don’t have seem to be so much happier than the snarly youth of those that have….

  5. I love those photograph. Africa, particularly south of Sahara, is such a fascinating place, and I find not only children, but people of all ages, to be so spirited and open in most countries. I wish you all the best for the new year, Sherry, may you have some great adventures awaiting you.

  6. Your photos are so filled with joy and white healthy teeth – happy children, it’s so wonderful to see them, so a bit cheeky too. Just like kids are, doesn’t matter where they live on earth. The last photo with girls in the yellow shawls – my pick of this smiling and cheeky bunch.
