Preparing for Christmas

I’ve been quite busy since arriving home from my six-week–4,200 mile–road trip through the Southern U.S.  In addition to the normal duties one has when returning from a trip (i.e. unpacking, laundry, opening mail, paying bills, cleaning house, grocery shopping, etc.), with the holidays right around the corner, I decorated the house…

did some Christmas shopping, met a friend for happy hour, responded to party invitations, and took my doggie hiking at the nearby trails.  A couple of days ago, I looked out in the front yard, saw the frosty grass and the shadows stretching across the yard and thought how pretty it looked…so I captured the moment…

Tomorrow evening my son and his girlfriend are coming over for an early Christmas celebration because he’ll be going to Dallas to visit his father over Christmas.  I’m really looking forward to seeing him, since the last time I saw him was before I left for my trip. I’ll be cooking dinner and a delicious dessert!

In memory of the slain children, here is a photo I took a week ago in Florida of happy frolicking children by the sea at sunset…

May their families hearts not break from the sadness.

Wishing everyone a joyful weekend!

Tranquility

I love indoor/outdoor spaces and these are so lovely!  I wonder if this would be comfortable…

I love to entertain and this would be a perfect spot for it.  It’s absolutely breathtaking!  People would need to be careful if they’re drinking though!

Everyone loves tree houses.  I think they take us back to our childhood and make us feel young again!

I had found a kind of serenity, a new maturity…I didn’t feel better or stronger than anyone else but it seemed no longer important whether everyone loved me or not–more important now was for me to love them.  Feeling that way turns your whole life around; living becomes the act of giving.” ~Beverly Sills

Discovering Art

I’ve just begun discovering my tastes in art during the past six years.  My role as a full-time working mother in the years past didn’t leave time for me.

I’m drawn to pieces that are bold, either in color or composition.  And to trees!  I’m thankful I have the time and interest to explore it now!

Art expressed through Fashion

I’ve always loved clothes.  Probably because I am tall and slender and most things look good on me.  In the last few years, I’ve been buying more sporty type clothing, for travel.  Items that wick, are light-weight, dry fast, have SPF, etc.  It’s still fun to look occasionally…

“It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules.” ~Alexander McQueen

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”  ~Audrey Hepburn

I used to think fashion was a waste of time.  But now I realize it is just another form of art.

I love whimsy!  Who wouldn’t want to bath here?  Usually I’m a shower kinda girl though!

Looks like a weird mushroom to me….a very beautiful one!

What a cute apartment.  I really like small spaces!  Nice and cozy!

How creative!  Singapore designers completed an office interior for an advertising agency that features a drawing of the company’s founder spread across the walls and floor.

Located in Mumbai, these residential condos are way cool!  I’m ready for summer!

This is an office.  You could have a picnic for lunch!

New Eyes

I stepped onto my deck this morning and captured these photos of the light snowfall.  When I initially looked out the window, the dusky light caught my eye and I thought–”Wow, I need to take a picture”!

I find myself doing that more often…everywhere I look…I’ll see a photograph!  I know most of you can relate–those of you who like to take photographs.  When you compare these photos with the next few–you realize how blue the light was.  I find that really interesting.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.       ~Marcel Proust~

The rest of these photos were also taken in my backyard or side yard.  The last one was obviously in the Autumn and you’ll notice my doggie–Jake–in that one!
