I’ve decided to spread joy for 30 days and document it here on my blog. There are many ways of brightening someone’s day and like most people, I accomplish this without trying in my daily life…though perhaps not every day. I believe everyone makes a difference in the world with their positive words/actions…no matter how small they may seem. And there are lots of ways to do so without costing money (or very little).
Day 1 – 11-17-10: I texted three friends and my husband and let them know I was thinking of them and to have a great day. All of them contacted via either e-mail, text, or phone to let me know I brightened their day. I also took my son out for dinner!
Day 2 – 11-18-10: After speaking with the Director of a homeless shelter located in my County concerning volunteering opportunities, I drove to the location and found my experience to be a little unusual. I’ve volunteered in the past for an organization called The Bethany House in Cincinnati, and a few others, so I have a few experiences to compare it with. Anyway, upon arrival, the Director didn’t give me any direction, so I sat and talked with one of the residents, who was holding a baby. After about 10 minutes of socializing, I found the Director and again asked what I could do. She gave me the task of cleaning all of the children’s toys with wet wipes, which I completed in about 50 minutes and upon leaving, met two other volunteers who were baking a cake. They said they had lived there for a couple of months when they were homeless and wanted to give back.
If any of you have spread joy recently, I’d love to hear about it!

What an inspiring idea! I’ll have to think on a way to make it work in my life. Good luck!
